Gambling and Golf Cart Crashing - Labor Day Weekend

I've always loved labor day weekend. It always filled with lots of my favorite things. Outdoor activities, good food, football, and it's the beginning of fall, my very favorite season. This labor day weekend was not without some of my favorite things.

Friday, one of our good friends came in town to stay with us for the weekend. As soon as he got in, we headed up to Cincinnati to the Horseshoe Casino. Our friend is a frequent visitor and had a free room at the Marriott. The hotel was beautiful and we had a great view.

This was the first time I had ever been to a casino to gamble. My grandparents live in Las Vegas and I had been to many of the casinos on the strip, but I had never been to gamble. To be honest, I am not a fan of gambling. I feel like it is a waste of money. I think that it is like a concert or amusement park, you pay to have an enjoyable time, but there is a point where it is not fun anymore and just becomes a waste. I was pretty hesitant to even try anything at all, since I had no clue what I was doing. I watched the boys play roulette and blackjack for awhile and when Jake was bored with it we went and got burgers. So delicious.

We watched our friend play blackjack for a little while longer. He is pretty good and knows what he is doing, so I was trying to learn how to do it. Before we left, I decided to play a few hands. I actually did a pretty good job and ended up winning $20. Pretty good for a first timer.

The next day we said goodbye to our nice hotel room and headed home. We lounged around and ordered our favorite local pizza. We watched as a crazy storm rolled in.

It cleared up just in time for us to head downtown to watch the UK football game. We were all excited for the first game of the season, but unfortunately the outcome was not what we were hoping for. I still love watching and will always support the wildcats, I just hope we can win a game at some point this season!

Sunday we were supposed to go canoeing, but the creek had flooded due to the crazy storm. We opted for a pool day instead. I watched as the boys played water volleyball all day. This is one of their favorite things to do and it gets pretty intense. They let me play a few rounds, though.

That night we went to the neighbors birthday party and then I tagged along to Jake's fantasy football draft. People really take fantasy football seriously. I would love to be in a league, but I just don't think I would be that great at it. Maybe next year.

On labor day, Jake went golfing with his dad. I wanted to golf with them, but on a busy golfing day and for $40, it just wasn't worth it. Jake let me tag along and drive the golf cart. I watched them play and read magazines. The excitement came when I got the cart stuck in a ditch. Oops. It started pouring on the 18th hole, so we got drenched. We came home to a wonderful dinner cooked by Jake's stepmom.

It was such a good weekend. It reminded my why I love Lexington so much, which is going to make it even harder to leave. I am so grateful for this time I have to spend with Jake. I am trying to enjoy every minute of it, because I know once we are in Japan and settled in, he will be busy with work and we won't get time like this for a long time.

How was your labor day weekend? Are you in a fantasy football league? How did your college football team do?

Until next time,

  1. I found your blog through wildcard wednesday! I grew up in Vegas so I am not much for gambling. But my husband likes to when we go visit my family. I wish I was laying out by a pool, but being in Alaska does nothing for my warm weather dreams :)

    1. Hi Kelsey! When it comes to gambling, I always think that I would rather be spending the money on a cute new outfit. Thinking about it like that usually takes all of the fun out of it. Alaska? It may not be a laying out by the pool kind of place, but it does sounds like an exciting adventure!
