Operation Smile

November is a month dedicated to saying thanks and giving to others. I have always been very thankful  that my parents taught me to give at a very early age. They are always giving to others, whether it is their time or their money. In the spirit of giving, I wanted to share with you an amazing charity that is making the world a better place, one smile at a time.

Operation Smile is a volunteer-based medical charity providing free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities in children around the world.

Did you know that every three minutes a child is born with a cleft lip? Did you know that only 1 in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday? These statistics are shocking. I never knew these facial deformities were so common or so life-threatining. Even if a child does make it past their first birthday, they do not get to have a normal life. They may not be able to speak, eat, or socialize as other children do.

Through Operation Smile, children with facial deformities are given a chance at a better life. But, Operation Smile cannot give children in need these surgeries without help.

How can you help?
-One time monetary donation
-Monthly monetary donation
-Gifting items from the gift catalog (surgery, medicine, supplies)
-Fundraising
-Employer Match
-Renting textbooks from Campusbookrentals.com

Yes, you can donate by doing something as simple as renting a textbook. Every college student needs textbooks, why not use the opportunity to give to others. Campusbookrentals.com is a company that rents out textbooks to college students for any period of time, saving you up to 90% off bookstore prices. When you rent a book, you can customize your rental period and extend at anytime. They provide free two-way shipping and free returns within 21 days. Campus Book Rentals will donate money to Operation Smile for each book rented. Not only will you save money, you will be donating to a wonderful cause.

This giving season, give the gift of a better life to children in need. Donate to Operation Smile or simply  use Campus Book Rentals for all of your textbook needs.

  1. This was the charity Blue Peter supported a couple of years ago, my sisters and I made theatre gowns and sent them in so that Blue Peter could take them out. Such a worthwhile cause. It was incredible to see the responses. I wish so much there was a company like Campus Book Rentals in the UK, it would be so useful!
