The non-dog owners out there may find this appalling, but our dog sleeps under the covers with us. When she was a puppy, she hated snuggling. After awhile of trying to snuggle with her, she decided she enjoyed it and began pawing at the covers every night to get in. Usually when Jake and I are both in the bed, she sleeps on her dog bed and then comes and gets in bed when one of us wakes up to get ready. I always make the bed when we get up, or she will get right back under the covers without us. She would lay in bed under the covers, with her head on the pillow all day if she could.
When Jake was gone for a month, she obviously missed him because she had to be touching me at all times, meaning she slept with me every night. Once Jake got home, she still wanted to sleep in the bed with both of us in there. The thing about Lexie is that she is part husky and therefore sheds a significant amount. Once Jake was back, he was not happy with dog hair constantly being in our bed, and declared an all out war on dog hair. This got me noticing the dog hair, too, not just in the bed but everywhere else.
Jake decided our first step is keeping her out of the covers. I knew this would be hard because she jumps up on the bed and paws at us until we let her in. And her face is so cute we just can't say no, especially Jake(our future children will most likely have him wrapped around his finger). We found a compromise, she can be on the bed, on top of the covers, but we put another blanket over her so she thinks she is under our covers. She isn't quite fooled, but it has kept her happy for now.

Just a typical day in the life of Lexie
She likes to use pillows

"Mom, please let me in the covers with you"
I have also been on a crusade around the house trying to get rid of all of the dog hair. We thought not having carpet would be better for the dog hair, but now I walk around and see it everywhere. I can sweep daily and it will still be all over the floor. I can't go anywhere without having to lint roll my outfit.
Yep, that's all full of dog hair. I recommend this vacuum to any pet owners out there, Hoover Windtunnel Petrewind
Dog hair, after sweeping only 2 days before.
Maybe we should just shave the damn dog and be done with it
Wish us luck in battle
Does your dog sleep in your bed? What do you do to keep the dog hair under control?
We have two husky's and we such a terrible time keeping the dog hair in check! We never let them in bed with us for that reason, but they do sure like to get on the furniture when no one is looking! When we aren't home, we flip up the cushions on our couch just to keep them off! It's a pain in the butt, but for the most part works great! Having wood floors, I vacuum daily and I also have to dust daily! The things we do for our dogs ;)
ReplyDeleteWe battle with dog hair issues as well! We put our dogs on our bed, and we have all white bedding. Every evening, before we go to bed, I put a top sheet over our duvet. That helps to keep the bedding clean. I also wash all of our bedding each Monday morning to help keep it clean. Besides our vacuum, I discovered that our steam cleaner helps with getting dog hair out of our carpet. Other than that, simply brushing them every day helps reduce the amount of loose dog hair. That fur intro brush is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHaha that is a battle that can never be won. I usually just vacuum after they've been in the house. They're not allowed on the furniture so we don't have that issue but the floors are always covered. In the summer they're rarely inside but in the winter they're always in at night so I just vacuum in the morning when they go outside.
ReplyDeleteI have two Labrador Retrievers, so I feel your pain. Every night, I have to vacuum the couch before we can sit down and watch tv. Like you, we thought hardwood floors would help the issue. I guess the hardwoods keep the hair from getting embedded into the carpet, but there are always a few fur tumbleweeds, no matter how much we swiff, sweep, and vacuum!
ReplyDeleteAwww she is SO cute!!! I totally wouldn't be able to resist that face!
ReplyDeleteOMG what a freakin cutie. Our lab is a cuddler/sheet sleeper too, and she's black so it seems worse. Everything always looks so gross. Luckily, we got a ton of wedding stuff we didn't need to we took it all back and bought a Dyson. As pet owners, it's just something we have to accept that our homes will never be Pinterest worthy
ReplyDeleteWe have a chocolate lab and are also in a war against dog hair! We got a Dyson for a wedding gift and I use it at least once a week. We had planned on getting hardwood floors soon because we were so sick of all the hair being in the carpet and figured sweeping it would be easier. Plus I feel like I can't ever get it ALL out of the carpet!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet face, nearly impossible to say no to! Yes our dog sleeps right in the middle of us but on top of the covers. Still little black hairs everywhere!! My dreams of having white comforters or couch are no more because of the little black hairs. I keep a lint roller in my car at all times! No idea on how to win the war, I sweep/swiffer all the time! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOne of the many many reasons I got a Labradoodle was the fact she doesn't shed. She is a black dog and can carry a lot of dirt in her fur so although we don't end up with hair all over the place, we do have dirt!
ReplyDeleteawh, your dog is so cute! i have cats, so i know all about shedding! it's everywhere!

My pups sleep under the covers too! And our house is constantly filled with dog hair. I have given up on the battle against the dog hair and just vacuum every weekend :( so much for hardwood floors being a lifesaver!
ReplyDeleteFirst, your photos are soooo adorable! Second, I need that vacuum in my life. I can't believe that thing is full of dog hair! Wow. I can only imagine what large amount of hair my dog has left behind in the apartment...
ReplyDeleteAwww she's adorable!! I have a German Shepherd and he's definitely a crazy shedder. He sleeps on top of the covers with me. Brushing him everyday definitely helps but sometimes I forget. I use two different combs/brushes. Maybe experiment with different tools/techniques? I also give him fish oil and I think that helps but could be my imagination haha. It's an ongoing battle for sure!

They are adorable! My lab mix Stella sleeps in our bed and sheds SO much (not to mention she is a bed hog!). I get to my office every day and have to lint role the stay white fur off my usually-black tights, blazer, etc. But man she is just so cute ...
ReplyDeleteI grew up with Golden Retrievers, so I am definitely familiar with the dog hair battle -- it sucks but, they're so cute you can only be mad at them for so long!!!
