I love boots. Like really, really love want to wear them every moment of my life love. It is in the 80's here and certainly doesn't seem to be cooling anytime soon. That does not stop me from lusting over every pair of boots I lay eyes on. I have been wanting Frye boots for some time now. They have about 4 different pairs that I would just kill for. I have had my eye on a particular pair for awhile now.
Frye boots are very good quality and will last a very long time. Regardless, $348 is a lot to spend on a pair of boots.
Splurge
or
Save
The other day while spending hours looking on Target.com I found these boots that look very similar to the Frye Melissa buttons. The problem with most riding boots that don't cost a fortune is that they are not real leather and in turn, won't last as long. These, however, are real leather. The construction on the Frye ones just looks nicer to me, but the price tag of $74.99 on these is looking pretty tempting.
So what do you think? Are Frye boots really worth the hefty price tag? Are riding boots a wardrobe staple worth the splurge? Are the Target look-a-likes just as good as the Frye?
Help me answer my question: Splurge or Save?
I actually have BOTH of those boots! I picked up the Target ones at the beginning of "boot season" last year to see how often I would wear them. It turned out to be almost every day! However, after about a month of wearing them 2-3 times a week, the sides were falling apart, and there was absolutely zero support for your feet. I work retail and need some sort of arch support in my shoes to be standing all day. I finally saved up enough money to get the Frye pair and I am in love. I am seriously debating buying a black pair this fall! They are hands down worth the money if you wear them on a regular basis!
ReplyDeleteTo me Targt's shoes have always been so uncomfortable. I mean they hurt bad! I prefer to spend the extra money on nicer things that will last you longer. Frye boots have a great warranty and will last for year and years. I say get the Frye's!
ReplyDeleteI'm a saver so I vote to totally save, but it depends on how often you will wear them!
ReplyDeleteIf you plan on wearing them regularly, you have to splurge for the sake of your feet. For me, my riding boots like this were a 'save' purchase, because I only wear them for fun - maybe once a week, for a weekend going out outfit.
ReplyDeleteSplurge. Those Target boots will probably not last as long just as you said. Then you will have wasted that money you could put towards the costly boots. The Frye boots are an investment and if you LOVE them you should get them. Besides they are a total staple for a girls closet. I wear my boots all.the.time.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a tough one! For me, riding boots are a wardrobe staple, so it might be worth the splurge. But, mine are from DSW, and I think I spent maybe 120 on them. So, maybe there is a compromise between the Frye and Target price tags? Just found your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI splurged on my riding boots. I bought a pair from Aerosoles that look great! They cost me about $100. I needed a pair with good soles because I knew wearing them all day and walking to class would make my feet hurt. I think mine are imitation leather but you can't tell by looking at them.

This debate has been going on in my head for the last couple of weeks! I am in need of a new pair of boots for fall and after buying "cheaper" boots the last couple of years and having them last one season, I am thinking of splurging on a Frye pair. But this is a very hard decision for the saver in me! Either way both boots are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love my Frye boots, and they hold up so well. Both options look pretty good, but if you know you are going to wear them a lot then I would invest in something that will last. I mean I love a good deal, but I think everyone needs good staple investment pieces as well.
ReplyDeleteI always choose save because my mind always changes, except for boots. i think they are timesless!
ReplyDeleteSplurge! Boots are a staple and you want ones that will last and still look good. Leather is comfy-er and won't make your feet stink. I've learned the hard way that sometimes you get what you pay for!
ReplyDeleteSplurge, these boots will last a long time. They will definitely get the intended use. XOXO
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Target has really been stepping it up lately with some quality items. I bet the splurge boots would feel so good on...Like buttah but if you are thinking of not wearing them too often, I think the Target ones will work.
ReplyDeleteYou know the Target ones look really nice but it would depend how they feel on your foot after hours of wearage. :P I'll stick to DSW, they seem to have a good balance of good boots at a reasonable price. Let me know which ones your settle for. :) Happy Thursday Mackenzie! -Iva
ReplyDeleteBoth options look great, but my choice would be save! I just stumbled across your blog! Its so cute!
